Derbyshire Police force have issued a book to all their officers to help them spell correctly. The force had had enough of mistakes in crime reports. I thought there were certain competence tests you had to pass to be police man or woman (bet I’ve been politically incorrect there!).
Such examples includes:
Someone who provides information is a source not a sauce. Also included are the different meanings of too and two, threw and through and weather & whether. A list of correct spellings is also provided. Why not just supply everyone with a pocket dictionary? My spelling sure isn’t perfect but at least theres spell check.
Most of the police officers think it’s patronising to be given this. As police officers are supposed to be seen as upstanding members of our community surely they shouldn’t have been given the job if their spelling wasn’t up to par.
