Social workers for Edinburgh Council, have effectivly kidnapped to kids away from their grand parents. The kids mother is a recovering heroine addict and her parents were doing a good job of raising their grand kids. Most important of all is the fact the kids were happy living with the grand parents they knew & loved.
The social workers claimed the grand parents were unfit to legally adopt the kids as their guardians claiming he was too old at 59 & had angina. This didn’t stop him holding a full time job. Social workers also claimed that that she, aged 46, was unfit because she was a diabetic.
What’s really alarming is that the grand parents were threatend no to contest the action or they would never be allowed to see their grand children. Despite this the grandfather stood up to these council bullies by talking to the press about their actions. As a last resort the kids mother requested that the kids be placed with a regular family meaning a mum and dad but this was ignored and the kids were placed with a gay male couple.
I’m not ‘gay bashing’ here. It’s the simple fact that the kids welfare was the last thing on the social workers minds. Instead it seems to be more about meeting some politically correct agenda. Also regardless of wether the foster parents are gay or straight, what kind of people agree to take kids from a loving family anyway?
What isn’t mentioned is wether or not they were aware of the fact. Were they kept in the dark about the loving grandparents? Afterall the kids are bound to talk about their granparents in a loving way so the new foster parents would find out the truth. Now that they probably know the truth anyway why don’t they try to get the kids back into the care of their grandparents? If not they can’t be very good parents themselves. They are plenty of other kids that really do need a good home. They can always adopt a couple of these.
(Update 4th Feb ’09) The Grandparents now have the backing of a wealthy benifactor to launch a legal challenge to this stupid Social Worker action.
