This was unbelievable to read. It is also a good example of why kids run riot & do not respect authority as there is no deterrent.
Alma Harding, a 63 year old pensioner, was in charge of the green in Kenton, near Exeter UK. It had been entered into the Britain In Bloom contest. 3 kids were playing football close to a flower bed on the village green. When Alma asked them to stop they surrounded her & swore at her. In lawless Britain this could be scary for anyone, let alone a 63 year old pensioner.
Feeling scared she defended herself by slapping one on the head wil the rolled up minutes from her church council meeting. This yob then ‘ran home to mummy’ who then called the police. I bet the yob neglected to mention to mummy that he & his two yob mates surrounded her & started swearing at her.
Alma Harding was offered a caution which would have kept the case out of court but stood a a criminal conviction against her. She took it to court anyway on the principle of the matter. Well done Alma for that! She insisted she would rather go to jail than have this ‘stain on her character’. She was arrested & charged with battery.
Alma pleaded not guilty but was convicted but walded free with a conditional discharge. What was the judge thinking? Personally I think his lack of thought was the problem. The Judge should have just thrown this case out. This ruling just proves what the yobs know already – do it anyway because you’ll probably get away with it! The police need to get a grip too. They took this to court for reasons of political correctness. They didn’t want to be seen to condone anyone hitting someone on the head with paper. No wonder we live in broken Britain, this shows that the police have lost the use of common sense.
