First, congratulations to young 16 year old Georgia Davis for losing 14.5 stone at American ‘fat camp’ Wellspring in North Carolina. She has already upped her life expectancy from about 5 years to about 65 years, so well done! Here’s her original story last year in the Sun paper.

Unfortunately this fat camp costs £3600 a month. In other words it’s bloody expensive! As per my first paragraph I was happy to read of her success in yesterdays Sun newspaper. Please note: The online article says she lost 12 stone while the actual paper said she lost 14.5 stone. Either amount is a good thing for Georgia.

Then I read today’s follow up story on her. She (or more likely her parents or other) want a massive £23,000 from our already overstretched NHS (National Health Service) so she can continue on the program. First, as she is just 16 years old, I don’t think Georgia Davis is responsible for coming up with the idea of hitting the NHS for the cash. If the NHS pays for this then it’s no wonder they are cash strapped for serious ops. I’m opposed to the idea. The first part of the course was paid for via a special Academy scholarship.

Calories consumed verses calories burned means your going to be over weight (or under weight) If you don’t have balance between the two. Yes, I know there are bound to be some exceptions to that basic rule such as a thyroid or gland problem, I think. She has already turned her life around but I think she can carry on the great progress shes made here in the UK along with support & counseling for a lot less than £23,000. By admitting to & then overcoming her own old eating habits she has basically admitted to it being a self induced problem as far as I’m consumed. Another factor is bad parenting to allow her to eat so much in the first place.

I suggest she carries on doing what shes doing already. Do interviews & get paid for her story. If the paper can afford so much press space for her I think shes probably getting paid well for her story. If not she should be as she was the main story on the papers front page yesterday. Maybe the ‘NHS’ bit was just to court controversy to keep her as a news worthy item. In this case job well done! And job well done to Georgia Davis herself for losing the pounds.
