Just logged into stumbleupon for the first time in a while & came across the stumbleupon clean water project for a school in Haiti with mycharitywater. A cholera outbreak has started in Haiti but cholera is easily preventable by supplying clean water. Stumbleupon aim to raise $20,000 to sponsor a project to supply clean water to a school and this fundraiser was launched using mycharitywater on December 9th 2010. Currently stumbleupon members like me have helped to raise $3956 of the $20,000 already.
Apologies for the picture quality, I just snapped the pic & uploaded it today. If you stumble you can donate through the stumbleupon water project blog post or via the mycharitywater stumbleupon waterpage. I’ve already donated $20 myself, I don’t believe in asking you to do something I’m not prepared to do myself.

Here’s a quote from the stumbleupon blog post, linked to above.
According to charity: water, $20,000 will fund a entire water project for a school, providing up to 1,000 children with clean, safe, drinking water. charity: waterfunds a range of water solutions in 17 developing countries around the world, all chosen based on their very limited access to a safe water supply and high rates of water-related deaths. The water solutions include hand-dug wells, drilled wells, rehabilitation’s, spring protections, rainwater catchments and Bio Sand filters.
After stumbleupon members raise the $20,000 it takes up to 18 months for the project to be build / completed. At this time all donors will get a hard copy report in the post showing the GPS location and photo’s of the project. The info is also uploaded to Google maps.
With over 12 million stumbleupon members this stumbleupon water project hopes to raise a lot more than just $20,000 but this fundraiser only lasts till 31st December 2010 as as money raised is used to fund projects at the end of each quarter. Yes, I know it’s almost Christmas & you’ve got presents etc to buy but Christmas is also supposed to be the season of good will. Wouldn’t you have a better concience as you eat your big Christmas dinner knowing a donation from you, how ever small or large, will help save lives? Your own goodwill to others, including people you don’t know is the essence of what the festive season is all about. Please donate to the stumbleupon / mycharitywater project to supply clean water to a school & ease the suffering of up to 1000 children. Clean water is something you and I probably take for granted. Don’t you think the children of Haiti should have access to clean water as well?
