I’ve just donated £20 to support my UK bowel cancer research fund raiser on Virgin / My Giving. Just can’t expect others to donate to bowel cancer research if I don’t donate myself. As mentioned on my homepage I have a bi annual colonoscopy to check for polyps. Yes the procedure is a bit uncomfortable, like having trapped wind, but I’d rather suffer that than full blown bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is relatively easy to treat if caught early but symptoms don’t show until it’s started to get a grip. It is also now one of the biggest killers.
Originally I got told the rules had changed and I wouldn’t qualify for a colonoscopy until I was 45 (My mum died of bowel cancer). I decided that wasn’t good enough so my doctor got me in for a sigmoidoscopy that examines the last bit / straight part of the bowel. They removed some polyps and booked me in for a full colonoscopy, all of the bowel. This post has reminded me that I should be due for my next colonoscopy late this year or early next year. Have made a note on my calender to chase it up with the NHS (National Health Service).
