Being a mild UK fan of Whale Wars on Discovery channel I was becoming concerned that there was no apparent Whale Wars season / series 6 covering the 2012 / 2013 Japan whaling season. Now that the Sea Shepherds are now into the 2013 /2014 Japan whaling season I became concerned that some ‘censorship’ of programs was becoming involved. I decided to hit the internet to see if I’d missed out on the exploits of the ‘Sea Shepherds’ and found out that here in the UK I had – big time!
Watch Whale Wars – Commander Rising on vimeo (like youtube). I’d missed a lot! Seems like UK Discovery channel want to let the exploits of the Sea Shepherds start to quietly pass by… Right now since mid Dec 2013 to current as of this date and until March the Sea Shepherds are back at work in the Antarctic but minus their boss Paul Watson. Suggest big time you click on the 1 1/2 hour show I linked to above to catch up! The term ‘media suppression’ springs to mind here in the UK. This program was broadcast in the US on Animal Planet. It’s got intrigue and power states involved. Lets just say I expected it from the politicians of Japan but really surprised the US Supreme Court got involved and basically said (by their actions) that they support Japans whaling program!
SHAME ON YOU USA! I doubt your own US citizens are even aware of your actions that help promote whaling. Must point you to a theory I had last year that may well affect your western sea board. I wrote this post based on an idea that the rise in the Humboldt squid population may possibly be linked to a lack of whale population to eat them. I have no proof of this and I’m not qualified / funded to find out. Forget the possibility of human attacks, they’re probably rare. What about the effects of swarms of these squid on various fish species? The human race has over fished them already, how can ocean fish survive both the human race and these veracious squid? I’m thinking that if we humans let the whales live, eventually there will be more fish left in the seas again to help feed us.
My theory is simple but unproven. Yes sperm whales eat large squid but I think minke whales might feed on the smaller / baby squid. Why would so many minke whales be in the antarctic if finding food wasn’t involved?
Sea Shepherd USA are embroiled in politically motivated law suits / supreme court injunctions. Sea Shepherd Australia is fighting the good fight in the antarctic to save the whales right now.
